Clubs & Societies

According to the concept of the former Principal Mr K.G.Wimalasena the Junior Western Band was formed in 2007. Now it has grown as a leading Senior Western Band among the other schools in Sri Lanka. Since 2007 the Senior Western Band has achieved many prizes and awards in Zonal, Provincial and All Island level competitions.

History

Under the concept of the former principal Mr K.G.Wimalasena the Junior Western Band was formed on the 17^th of October 2007. The teachers in-charge Ms Himaya Pathirana, Ms Vasana Dharmarathna and Ms Renuka Priyadarshani assisted the principal in forming the Band.It was started with 27 members and  Ishan Shammika Perera was the first band leader. In 2010, it was formed as the Senior Western Band- boys .The band leaders were Keshan Sandeepa and Dilshan Govinna. Form 2011 to 2016 the band was led by  Malith Shavinda Boralugoda. Ms Renuka Priyadarshani and Ms Sashini  Dinuka Kollurage acted as the teachers in-charge from 2011 to 2014. Science 2014 Ms Sashini Dinuka Kollurage has been acting as the teacher in-charge of the band. From 2016 to 2017 Pamitha Wijerathna led the band. Chamal Maduwantha acted as the Deputy Band leader since 2017. The Band is led by Sachintha Jayasekara and Thavindu Danuja. The Band Master is Mr E.D.R. Nilanthi and Ms Sachini Kollurage is the teachers in-charge of the band.

Activities for 2018

• Giving necessary support in special occasions and ceremonies which will be held in school.
• Organizing the Inter-School Band Competition and Concert which is named  “Blending Beats of Palians - 2018”
• Conducting practical sessions for the students to participate in Western Music Competitions.

• Selected as the best Western Band and the Best Band Leader (boys) in Jayawardanapura Zonal Competitions in 2012 and 2013.
• Won the 4^th Place in All Island Western Band Competition Organized by Royal College, Colombo in 2013.
• Won the 1^st place in the all Island Western Music Competitions (Mixed instrument category) in 2013.
• Won the 1^st place in Ranaviru Sena Band competitions in 2014.
• Won the 1^st place in Rhythm of J’pura indoor competitions in 2014.
• Won the 2^nd place in all Island Western Music and Dance competitions in 2015. (Mixed instrument group)
• Won the 3^rd place in all Island Western Music and Dance Competition in 2016. (Mixed instrument category)
• Won the 2^nd place in all Island Western Music and Dance Competitions in 2017.
